Yes, job titles still matter in leisure travel recruitment in 2026. Ambitions Travel Recruitment’s industry poll found that 62% of leisure travel professionals say their title directly affects how valued they feel and how their seniority is perceived.
Why this matters
Years ago, my role expanded far beyond Manager. I was designing strategy, leading teams, and driving performance, yet my title didn’t reflect the level at which I was operating.
I asked for it to change to Head of. Not for status, but because job titles represent growth, capability and direction.
When asked whether titles matter, my answer was yes, they do. That belief still stands with me today.
A modern example in 2026
A global travel organisation recently restructured its senior hierarchy. Responsibilities remain high-level, but titles shifted to Manager instead of Head of or Director.
It raised the question: Does your job title impact how valued you feel, and how others view your seniority and progression?
To answer, we asked the leisure travel industry.
Ambitions Travel Recruitment’s poll results – March 2026
62% of leisure travel professionals said “yes”, your job title does impact how valued you feel and how others view your seniority and progression.

Why titles still influence career progression in leisure travel
Job titles continue to shape:
- Professional visibility
- Salary bands and negotiation
- External credibility in the market
- Leadership authority perception
- Future career mobility and headhunting engagement
In leisure travel recruitment, we frequently see candidates decline roles due to title downgrading, not salary.
Skills, EQ, results and behaviour matter most, but titles signal level and value.
Employer guidance: Hiring leaders in 2026

FAQ’s
Yes. Ambitions Travel Recruitment’s 2026 industry poll found that 62% of travel professionals believe their job title directly affects how valued they feel and how others perceive their seniority and progression.
In leisure travel recruitment, candidates often decline offers because of a title downgrade rather than the salary on the table. Titles signal level, authority and market credibility, even when the responsibilities are equivalent.
Job titles influence professional visibility, salary negotiation, external credibility, perceived leadership authority, and how likely a candidate is to be approached for future opportunities.
Employers hiring senior leisure travel talent in 2026 should make sure the title reflects the actual responsibility of the role, consider how the title will be perceived by the market, and recognise that even a small title upgrade can significantly widen the candidate pool.
If your remit has grown without a matching title change, you may be underpositioned for external opportunities. It’s reasonable to raise a title conversation with your employer based on responsibility, not ego, and updating your title on LinkedIn accurately can increase headhunter engagement.
