South Africa Safari & Cape Town Experience: Why First-Hand Travel Knowledge Strengthens Recruitment

‹ Back to insights

By Fi Morrison-Arnthal, Founder and Managing Director of Ambitions Travel Recruitment, placing leisure travel professionals across the UK, South Africa, and North America.

First-hand travel experience, not brochures or secondhand knowledge, is what allows a recruitment agency to accurately match candidates to leisure travel roles, which is why Ambitions Travel Recruitment’s team recently visited Pondoro Lodge in the Greater Kruger and Cape Town to deepen its understanding of the destinations and products it recruits for.

Introduction

After 35+ years in the travel industry, South Africa still finds a way to move me every time I return. There’s a depth, an energy and a soul to this country that reconnects you with the meaning of travel — and with why we do what we do as travel professionals.

This wasn’t just a year-end trip. It was a reminder of the power of experiential knowledge and why it matters in leisure travel recruitment.

Safari – Pondoro Lodge, Greater Kruger

Our journey began in the bush at Pondoro Lodge, set within the Greater Kruger. Morning drives, wildlife encounters and luxury woven into nature reminded us why safari experiences shape true industry understanding.

We experienced:

  • Golden sunrise drives wrapped in blankets
  • Lions, elephants, and unforgettable sightings
  • Intimate lodge hospitality & exceptional guiding
  • Suites overlooking water, cuisine crafted with heart

It mirrors the products we support through recruitment — placing professionals who contract, market and sell luxury safari travel, alongside management teams who deliver world-class guest experiences.

From safari we travelled to Cape Town and stayed at Cape Finest in De Waterkant. Modern, stylish and immersive — it allowed us to live the city, not just visit it.

We explored Cape Town, toured the Winelands, and enjoyed wine, scenery, and sunshine. We also hosted our annual strategy session, reflected on our success, our future growth and team development.

This combination of business and leisure reinforced a truth: when teams experience destinations first-hand, their understanding, connection and ability to represent clients elevate.

Why this matters in global travel recruitment

We recruit for the leisure travel industry across the UK, South Africa, the GCC, Asia, and North America. To deliver excellence, we must understand their world deeply — not from brochures, but from lived experience.

Because experience builds:

  • Product understanding
  • Recruitment accuracy
  • Credibility with clients
  • Stronger candidate matching

Great recruitment isn’t transactional — it’s informed, intuitive and experience-led.

Pondoro brought grounding. Cape Town brought creativity. Together, they reignited purpose and strengthened connection for the year ahead.

Luxury. Nature. Culture. Strategy. Team.
This is what travel should feel like.

If you’re seeking exceptional talent — or a professional exploring new career pathways — we’d love to connect.
